Our very well-attended and enjoyable Christmas function took place on Thursday 11th December.

Certificates were also presented to Murray Lobb and Craig Jackson, marking their success in the 2025 Wellington Region Junior League - see separate post here.

Social Events Convener

The Committee is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to act as Social Events Convener in 2026. The role involves ensuring that an organiser is assigned to each event in our social calendar and that all arrangements are in place to make each event a success.

Events include:

Monthly Monday afternoon teas
Melbourne Cup Day
St Patrick's Day
Matariki
Christmas function

Melbourne Cup Day

Melbourne Cup Day Celebration - Monday 3rd November

Next Monday we celebrate Melbourne Cup Day, which coincides with our monthly afternoon tea.

For our new players, to enter into the Cup fever, you may choose to dress up.

There are prizes for best dressed, female and male, and for the best hat.

You may like to place some bets, $2.00, on the horses, prior to the start of bridge.

Please come along and join in the fun!

Ngā Manu Raffle 2025

THE GREAT KᾹPITI GIVEAWAY

Tickets are on sale for Ngā Manu’s 2025 raffle which is celebrating everything Kāpiti.

For $5 each or 5 tickets for $20, you have a chance to win an incredible prize pool worth $5,000 in vouchers, experiences, and stays to enjoy yourself or to share with friends and family.

All prizes have been donated and together, celebrate the wonderful businesses of Kāpiti. All proceeds go to Ngā Manu to continue its work of caring for our native wildlife and protecting 16 hectares of native habitat including rare coastal swamp forest.

I'm currently trying to set up a new Facebook page for the Club, together with an affiliated private members' group.

I don't guarantee either of these will currently work as intended, but if you would like to try them you're very welcome.

Matariki

To celebrate Matariki (Māori New Year), we will be repeating last year's successful "Soup Night" event.

The list is now available, so please add your name for what I'm sure will be an enjoyable evening.

Please come along if you can.

Judith and Blair Event

A good time was had by all on Saturday to remember Judith and Blair with fun bridge, great food and good company.

Thanks to everyone who made the day possible:

Margaret Gordon for managing the food and everyone else who contributed in the kitchen
All those other contributors (room set-up, bar team, furniture movers, cleaner-uppers and so on), with a special mention to Sue Osborne (chief washer up)

Thank you also to those who spoke to share their memories of both Judith and Blair, not always an easy task for those less accustomed to public speaking.

For the record, the overall winners on the day were Anthea Black and Paul Brinkman - many congratulations to them.
